A&WMA Centennial Survey -- Part 1 of 3

Earlier this year, we sent our members a survey asking them to identify the MOST SIGNIFICANT people, events and "things" that have affected our environment in the past 100 years.  We compiled the top answers, and the results are listed below, along with an image corresponding to the top response.

NATURAL ENVIRONMENTAL EVENT

With 48% of the vote, the Asian Tsunami of 2004 was chosen by members to be the most significant natural environmental event.  Pictured left is part of the tsunami as it approaches.

MAN-MADE ENVIRONMENTAL EVENT

With 40% of the vote, the Accidental Release in Bhopal, India was chosen by members to be the most significant man-made environmental event.  Pictured left is the location of Bhopal in India.

ENVIRONMENTAL STEWARD

With 48% of the vote each, Theodore Roosevelt and Rachel Carson were chosen by members to be the most significant environmental stewards.  Pictured left is Theodore Roosevelt.

ENVIRONMENTAL COMPANY OR ORGANIZATION

With 55% of the vote, the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) was chosen by members to be the most significant environmental company or organization.  Pictured left is the logo of the EPA.
