Southern Section Issues Challenge to All Sections and Chapters: Help A&WMA Update the Environmental Education Resource Guides!

A&WMA’s Environmental Education Resource Guides (EERGs), designed to develop critical thinking skills, are an integral part of A&WMA’s award-winning Teacher-Training Program. The Guides have all been field tested by classroom teachers and provide an ideal curriculum supplement.

A&WMA is seeking funding of about $20,000 to update the EERGs. The Southern Section of A&WMA has already agreed to donate $2,500 towards this goal and is asking our other Sections and Chapters to help with the fundraising efforts. Donations for any dollar amount will be graciously accepted and put towards the updating costs.

E-mail Sandi Spratt to donate. Help us update this important education tool!

A&WMA Takes Small Steps to Reduce Environmental Footprint

A&WMA has recently taken a number of small steps to reduce our environmental footprint. Our most visible step is the June issue of EM, which, for the first time, is printed on 100% post-consumer recycled paper. According to our printer, by using this type of paper over the next year we will save more than 272 trees and 163 gallons of water, reduce air emissions by approximately 38,000 lb, and prevent more than 17,000 lb of solid waste. In addition, June’s issue marks the first time that A&WMA is using 100% vegetable-based ink for the magazine, instead of the standard petroleum-based inks.

A&WMA will be using recycled paper for EM, the Journal, and our conference and promotional materials whenever possible. We will also continue to investigate our printing and mailing practices and seek out better methods of delivering content to our members—including providing a choice to view our materials online and forego the printed copy.

We welcome any thoughts or suggestions that will help us make A&WMA more sustainable and environmentally friendly. Please e-mail Kristen Maser with your recommendations.
