The A&WMA Symposium on Air Quality Measurements Methods and Technology Symposium (informally called the Measurements Symposium) is in recognition of the central importance of reliable, representative, and accurate data for decision-making. The conference is held annually in the spring, and has alternated between the west coast (San Francisco) and the east coast (Research Triangle Park area). One of the guiding principles is cross-fertilization between disciplines and types of users. Therefore, a mix of consultants, academic scientists, government scientists, and regulators has contributed to the wide range of topics discussed.
The emphasis is on developments in methods and technology. The topics presented have included ambient air, point and area source, indoor air, continuous particulate monitors, laboratory method development, new sampling methods—just about any topic that relates to air measurements.
In addition to the technical sessions, an exhibition is held, with vendors presenting their offerings. This event gives attendees direct interaction with providers of hardware solutions. Training courses held before the conference provide a supplement to the technical sessions.
