FINAL PROGRAM NOW AVAILABLE!

This international conference will provide a technical forum on advances in the scientific understanding of the effects of aerosols on regional, continental and global scale haze and radiation balance. The conference will specifically address: emission sources, atmospheric conditions and aerosol characteristics associated with haze and aerosol climate forcing; innovative aerosol, haze and radiation balance monitoring assessments and modeling methods; and haze and aerosol climate forcing policy, regulatory, and economic issues, including the development of state implementation plans for the Regional Haze Rule.  Due to increasing concerns of the effects of atmospheric nitrogen on haze and nitrogen deposition on ecosystems, a session on atmospheric nitrogen is also planned.  Three full day courses and one half day course, designed to provide both a technical foundation and a timely refresher will be offered on-site prior to the conference. A mid-conference field trip to a nearby scenic venue is also planned.

Presentation topics:

  • Aerosol, Visibility, and Radiation balance Field Studies and Monitoring Networks
  • Aerosol, Optical and Radiometric Monitoring Methods
  • Satellite and other Remote Sensing Applications to Haze/Aerosol Monitoring
  • Aerosol – Optical Relationships
  • Aerosol and Visibility Modeling at Global, Regional, and Local Scales
  • Source Attribution of Aerosol and Haze
  • Assessment of Haze from Natural Sources
  • Atmospheric Nitrogen – A Bridge between Visibility, Ecological, and Agricultural Issues
  • Carbonaceous Aerosol Effects on Haze and Climate
  • Direct and Indirect Effects of Aerosols on Climate Forcing
  • Policy, Regulatory and Economic Issues Associated with Visibility and Aerosol Climate Forcing
  • Human Perception of Visibility

Important Dates For Authors To Remember:
February 29, 2008
:  Draft electronic Manuscript/Extended Abstracts Due
April 18, 2008:  Final electronic Manuscript/Extended Abstracts Due

Receipt of the final manuscript or extended abstract is a mandatory prerequisite for either auditorium or poster presentation at the conference. Authors must follow the A&WMA Style Guide (http://www.awma.org/events/index.html).  Extended Abstract may be up to 5 pages (including all tables, figures and other graphics) and will be included in the conference proceedings.  Although Extended Abstracts will not be considered as publications, they must meet the same format, style and due date requirements as all other manuscripts.

It is anticipated that selected, peer-reviewed presentations will be published in a future issue of the Journal of the Air & Waste Management Association. Selected authors will have a limited opportunity to revise their presentations prior to publication. However, as described in the Journal Manuscript Preparation Guidelines (http://secure.awma.org/journal/edpolicy.htm), submission of a manuscript implies that the work has not been published previously; that it is not under consideration for publication elsewhere; that all co-authors and institutes where the work was conducted approve of publication; and that all authors reassign copyright to the A&WMA prior to publication.

If you have any questions, please contact Lisa Breese at lbreese@awma.org or 412-904-6004.
