Pittsburgh, PA (August 1, 2005) - Adrianne Carolla, CAE, has been named Executive Director of the Air & Waste Management Association (A&WMA). The appointment takes effect August 1, 2005.
In announcing the appointment, A&WMA President Edith Ardiente noted that the Association's Board of Directors unanimously selected Carolla for the position. "Adrianne brings to the Executive Director's position energy, vision, and a positive approach - all of which will be important as the Association continues to develop relationships in the academic, industry, government, and consulting communities."
Carolla most recently was Senior Director of the Association, where she oversaw A&WMA's meeting, education, and sales activities. She joined A&WMA's staff in 1992 as Technical Programs Coordinator after spending four years in the air quality modeling and consulting fields.
She has served on several Board-appointed task forces, one of which recommended internalizing exhibit and advertising sales functions. She also has served as staff liaison to the Association's Honors & Awards Committees, Technical Council, and Centennial Anniversary Task Force. As a member of the Association's Leadership Team, she participated in the development of the Association's strategic plan and initiatives.
Carolla is optimistic about the Association's ability to continue serving environmental professionals in the future. "I am excited about this opportunity because the Association is uniquely positioned to provide neutral forums that foster the necessary information exchange and collaboration," she says.
Carolla succeeds Richard Scherr, who served as Executive Director for more than five years before stepping down in July for medical reasons. As Executive Director, Scherr established a sustainable and profitable operating structure for the Association. "We are confident that Adrianne will carry on Dick Scherr's excellent work and will build upon A&WMA's dynamic and members-oriented services," says A&WMA President Elect Peter Hess.
In addition to her A&WMA responsibilities, Carolla is a Past President and active member of the Pittsburgh Society of Association Executives (PSAE), where she has served as a member of the Board of Directors, Program and Nominating committees, and CAE Study Group Coordinator. She also participates in the Council of Engineering & Scientific Society Executives (CESSE) and is a member of American Society of Association Executives (ASAE).
Carolla has a Bachelor of Science degree in Meteorology from Penn State University, and she received her CAE certification in 1999.
