AERMOD and CALPUFF Webinar (February 2013)
AERMOD and CALPUFF - The Basics of Theory and Operation: This intensive 2-hour course describes the regulatory basis of dispersion modeling as well as a scientific overview of the basics of AERMOD and CALPUFF. The webinar provides an introductory basis for conducting modeling studies or reviewing studies prepared by others. Viewers will learn how a dispersion model estimates the effects of atmospheric turbulence, stack conditions, building downwash, and nearby terrain to calculate ground-level pollutant concentrations using AERMOD and CALPUFF. Pre-processors for each model will be described in terms of what function they perform, what data sets are required and what data is produced. Often encountered pitfalls in the modeling are described as well as interpretation of results and what to do if modeling does not pass established benchmark concentrations like NAAQS or air toxics risk or acute impact levels.
