What Role Can Waste-Based Renewable Energy Play in Clean Power Plans and EPA's Proposed Federal Plan? Webinar (January 2016)
Learn the latest information from expert panelists and gain insight on the role that waste-based renewable energy can play in helping states meet reduction targets required by the Clean Power Plan. Waste-based renewable energy, which includes waste to energy and landfill gas to energy, is recognized in 29 state Renewable Portfolio Standards (RPS) as a viable solution to offset fossil fuel derived electricity. However, as proposed, the Federal Plan does not appear to accommodate waste-based renewable energy and therefore, conflicts with 29 state RPS. Presented in conjunction with the Solid Waste Association of North America (SWANA), this webinar addresses how EPA and states can remove barriers to leverage and maximize waste-based renewable energy in developing state Clean Power Plans. Panelists discuss how best to integrate waste-based renewable energy options in Clean Power Plans, explore why barriers exist in the proposed Federal Plan, and identify how best to remove these barriers so that states and tribal countries can rely on them as part of a federally-approved state plan. Also discussed is how best to integrate waste-based renewable energy options in Clean Power Plans, why barriers exist in the proposed Federal Plan, and how best to remove these barriers so states and tribal countries can rely on them as part of a federally-approved state or tribal plan.
