 Fundamentals of Air Pollution Meteorology & Modeling                                
            
This course will bring the fundamentals of air pollution meteorology and dispersion modeling to students in a straight-forward, intuitive way.  Beginning with the basic structure of the atmosphere and its dynamics, students will go on to learn how key components of the air pollution “system” – including sources, dispersion, and receptors – are related to the quality of ambient air.  The theory and practice of air modeling will be examined from elementary concepts to approaches recommended by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.  EPA modeling guidelines will be introduced along with features of recommended dispersion models such as AERMOD and AERSCREEN.

Anthony J. Sadar, CCM, Air Pollution Meteorologist & Administrator, Allegheny County Health Department, Air Quality Program
 
Anthony J. Sadar is a Certified Consulting Meteorologist with nearly 40 years of experience in air pollution meteorology and science education.  Mr. Sadar holds a B.S. degree in meteorology from Penn State, a M.S. in environmental science (air-pollution control) from the University of Cincinnati, and a M.Ed. in science education from the University of Pittsburgh.  Currently, Mr. Sadar is the air pollution meteorologist and administrator for the Allegheny County Health Department, Air Quality Program, in Pittsburgh, PA.  He has also worked for many years in private consulting investigating a variety of high-profile industrial projects and emergency release situations.  Besides his work with Allegheny County, Mr. Sadar has been an adjunct instructor of atmospheric, environmental, and earth science courses for various colleges and universities.

Ron Huffman, QEP, Environmental Consultant, has worked as an industry environmental   specialist and manager, and an Allegheny County Air Permitting Engineer.  He has worked on industrial air and water environmental and permitting projects for more than 35 years.  He has experience in the implementation and maintenance of an environmental management system for a chemical company and compliance audits.  He has been an active member of A&WMA since 1985.  He served as the Chair of the Allegheny Mountain Section.  He currently serves as the Vice Chair for A&WMA’s Webinar Committee.
