Air Pollution Control and Heat Rate Fundamentals: Regulatory Drivers, Impacts to Fly Ash and Waste Water Management,
and Effects of Variable Load

This short course provides both regulatory context and a technical introduction to a broad array of control technologies.  Understanding the implications of the regulatory environment, including New Source Review (NSR) context and reforms, along with the technologies in use at power plants and other industrial sources, are crucial background for anyone who needs to operate, monitor, modify or regulate emissions sources.   Regulatory drivers will be provided with an overview of technologies used to meet compliance, with the impact of variable load operation included for each topic:

  • SOx, PM, NOx (Coal and gas plants) (4 hrs)
  • Mercury, Air Toxics and Acid Gases (2 hrs)
  • Effluent/Byproducts (1 hr)
  • Heat Rate/efficiency (1 hr)
Our workshop trainers include:
  • Connie Senior, VP Technology, ADA-ES, Inc.
  • Tony Licata, Licata Energy & Environmental Consultants, Inc.
  • William Kennedy, PE, Manager, Process & Environmental Engineering, Duke Energy
