Freight & Environment: Ports of Entry Conference Wrap-up

Thank you to our presenters, volunteers, and sponsors and exhibitors for making this inaugural conference a success!

The Air & Waste Management Association is proud to have organized and hosted our first specialty conference focusing on reducing the environmental impacts of freight transportation, specifically ports of entry, on October 23-24, 2019 in Newark, New Jersey.

The conference featured over 40 presentations and panel discussions from experts in the field on freight emissions, noise, clean air, modeling, measurement, and community impacts from all types of freight including marine, truck, and rail distribution centers.  Attendees and presenters at the conference included an international community of scientists, regulators, and practitioners, sharing a variety of solutions and research on making freight more sustainable.

"This conference was successful because it explored a timely subject that affects many people involved in moving goods and addressed the important issue of the environmental impacts from this industry. The business of freight is international and the proposed solutions, when they are both feasible and sustainable, are accepted all over the world. The conference included the latest research and real-world experiences essential to making freight more environmentally-friendly," said Helen Ginzburg, conference chair. "We look forward to planning the next A&WMA Freight and Environment Conference in the future."

Additional conference highlights included a sold-out tour of the NY/NJ Port and a visit from the BYD 8TT Electric Day Cab Drayage Vehicle in use by the Port of Oakland from Hudson County Motors.
