Judith Chow and colleagues describe advances in laboratory analysis of speciated particulate matter data to identify impacts of fires. Casey Lenhart's article discusses quality assurance in air quality monitoring. Philip Hopke compares methods for measuring ultrafine particles and explains applications that need this
data. This introductory article provides context and introduces the authors.
