2025 A&WMA Fellow Membership

The Fellow Grade of Membership was inaugurated in 1986 to recognize professional attainment and accomplishments related to the mission and objectives of A&WMA. A candidate for fellowship has a minimum of 15 years of experience in an area served by the Association and has been a member of the Association for at least 10 continuous years. Fellows are recognized for their professional accomplishments and service to the Association based on a process, product, or regulatory development; project leadership; managerial achievement; the education of specialists; peer-reviewed technical publications; patents; and research or theoretical developments.

A&WMA presents the Fellow Grade of Membership to Jim Walker in 2025.

Mr. Walker has worked for Consumers Energy in Jackson, Michigan for 16 years, currently serving as the Air Quality Manager for the Environmental Quality & Sustainability Department. His Air Quality Section is responsible for compliance with air quality requirements for all the company’s assets including the natural gas compressor stations and electrical generation sites. This includes procuring air permits, reporting, and monitoring responsibilities. His prior work experience includes Corporate Environmental Manager for Rea Magnet Wire Company in Fort Wayne, Indiana where he had responsibility for environmental compliance in all environmental media for manufacturing facilities in Indiana, Connecticut, Virginia, New Mexico and in Monterrey, Mexico. Prior to that, he worked for corporate and divisional environmental offices of the Ford Motor Company in Dearborn, Michigan. He was responsible for environmental compliance for casting, powertrain, assembly and stamping plants in various states and Mexico. Before Ford, Mr. Walker worked as a consultant with Roy F. Weston for the Detroit municipal waste-to energy plant and as an engineer at the Macomb County Public Works.
 
Mr. Walker has served A&WMA locally and internationally. Locally, he has served as the Secretary and Chair for the East Michigan Chapter, as a Board Member for the Indiana Chapter, and Board Member and Chair of the East Central Section. Internationally, he is currently the Immediate Past President of the Association, and he has served as Chair of the Section and Chapters Council and as the Membership Chair for the Board of Directors. He has been a frequent presenter at the Leadership Academy in Pittsburgh, served in planning as well as presenting at specialty conferences and webinars as well as the Annual Conference.
 
His education includes a BSE, Chemical Engineering, University of Michigan–Ann Arbor, and an MBA, Operations Management Concentration, Oakland University.  He is a licensed professional engineer in the state of Michigan.
 
Mr. Walker resides in Jackson, Michigan and has been married to his wife Jeanne for 37 years, with 4 children and 2 grandsons.  When he is not working and spending time with family, he is active in his church or trying to find something fun to do outside.
