2025 A&WMA Honorary Membership

Honorary Membership, not exceeding two each year, may be conferred upon individual A&WMA members who have attained eminence in some field related to the mission and objectives of the Association or who have rendered valuable service to the Association. Honorary members shall have the privileges of individual members and shall pay no dues. The nominator must also be a current A&WMA member.

A&WMA commends Mark Rood and awards him with an Honorary Association Membership.


Mark J. Rood, Ivan Racheff Professor Emeritus in the Environmental Engineering & Science Program, University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign, was a faculty member there for 32.5 years and has been a member of A&WMA for 30+ years. Mark actively contributed to A&WMA as the Chairperson of its Education Division by implementing student awards for poster presentations, platform presentations, M.S. thesis and Ph.D. dissertation awards. He also participated in A&WMA’s Publication Committee. Mark’s research group provided > 85 of his research group’s total of 138 conference proceedings to A&WMA. Mark has been acknowledged for his contributions to A&WMA by receiving: 1) Lyman A. Ripperton Environmental Educator Award, 2) Exceptional Education Contributor Award, 3) Frank A. Chambers Excellence in Air Pollution Control Award, and 4) Soporowski Award. Mark also contributed to A&WMA by: 1) Board member (elected member, 2011-2014), Vice-President (2012), University Education Committee (1989-2010), Chairperson of University of Education Committee (1994-1996), Vice-Chairperson of Scholarship Committee (2001-2003), Representative to Technical Council (2017-2018), and member (2001-2018), Vice-Chairperson of the University Education Division (2003-2007), Chairperson of the University Education Division and member (2007-2010), Scholarship Trustees Committee (2008-2010), Faculty and Graduate Student Recruitment Committee (chairperson, 2007-2010), Publications Committee (2011-2014), Partnerships Task Force (2011-2014), and A&WMA’s Central Illinois Chapter (co-founder and member, 1987-2010).
 
Mark also contributes to our profession by publishing 173 manuscripts (scopus.com) by collaborating with his advisees and in an interdisciplinary manner with his national and international colleagues. Mark’s H-Index of 49 with 7.1 K citations (scopus.com).
 
Mark’s long-term contributions to A&WMA’s Educational, Technical, and Management missions with additional complimentary professional contributions nationally and internationally warrants his Honorary A&WMA Membership.
