2025 Outstanding Young Professional Award
The Outstanding Young Professional Award was inaugurated in 2008 and recognizes an individual or individuals who are pursuing excellence in their careers and have made a valuable contribution to A&WMA by serving in a leadership position. To be eligible, a candidate must be a young professional working in the environmental profession. A young professional is defined by the Association as being 35 years of age or younger.
A&WMA presents the 2025 Outstanding Young Professional Award to Chenxing (Ann) Teng.
Chenxing (Ann) Teng is a Regulatory Design Specialist at the Alberta Energy Regulator in Calgary, Alberta. She has over 10 years of experience in air quality and emissions management, spanning consulting, industry, and regulatory sectors. Her work has focused on environmental compliance, regulatory innovation, and sustainability initiatives.
Before joining the Alberta Energy Regulator, Ann worked as an environmental consultant, where she conducted air quality assessments, developed resource allocation and quality assurance tools, mentored junior staff, and managed projects for clients across various industries, including oil and gas and mining. Her expertise and leadership earned her an early promotion with expanded responsibilities. She later transitioned to an industry role, successfully managing multi-million-dollar projects focused on air emissions compliance and reduction initiatives. She played a key role in developing a centralized data repository to streamline regulatory reporting and sustainability initiatives.
Since joining the Alberta Energy Regulator in 2023, Ann has led complex emissions audits, strengthened compliance processes, and improved regulatory consistency. Her recent transition to a Regulatory Design Specialist role highlights her commitment to continuous learning and leadership in regulatory policy development.
Ann earned a Master of Earth and Energy Resources Leadership from Queen’s University in 2023, which inspired her to transition to the public sector and dedicate more efforts to community engagement. As a dedicated mentor, she actively supports young professionals and students through various local organizations, helping to cultivate the next generation of environmental leaders.
Ann has been an active member of A&WMA for several years. She serves as a board member at the Canadian Prairie and Northern Section (CPANS) and has led initiatives to strengthen public engagement. She played a key role in organizing the Student Programs for the 2024 A&WMA Annual Conference & Exhibition (ACE), facilitating connections between students and industry professionals.
In her free time, she enjoys yoga, traveling, and supporting initiatives that promote environmental stewardship.
