2026 A&WMA Fellow Membership
The Fellow Grade of Membership was inaugurated in 1986 to recognize professional attainment and accomplishments related to the mission and objectives of A&WMA. A candidate for fellowship has a minimum of 15 years of experience in an area served by the Association and has been a member of the Association for at least 10 continuous years. Fellows are recognized for their professional accomplishments and service to the Association based on a process, product, or regulatory development; project leadership; managerial achievement; the education of specialists; peer-reviewed technical publications; patents; and research or theoretical developments.
A&WMA presents the Fellow Grade of Membership to Greg Johnson in 2026.
Greg L. Johnson is a shareholder at Liskow & Lewis in New Orleans, Louisiana, where he has practiced for more than three decades as an environmental regulatory attorney and serves as the leader of the firm’s environmental practice. Over the course of his career, he has distinguished himself through sustained excellence in environmental law, significant contributions to the profession, and longstanding, impactful service to the Air & Waste Management Association (A&WMA).
Mr. Johnson’s practice focuses on advising clients on the environmental aspects of complex, large-impact transactions, litigation, and regulatory compliance issues in Louisiana as well as nationally and internationally. Greg plays a leading role in the environmental permitting for major, high-profile industrial facility projects, including renewable projects, and resolves often-controversial, high-exposure, oil and gas or energy-related disputes, such as the claims in the aftermath of the Deepwater Horizon oil spill. He serves as General Counsel to the International Carbon Black Association, a trade association representing the major carbon black manufacturers in Europe and North America. He also is often engaged in criminal environmental matters, several of which he has concluded without the imposition of criminal charges. He has been recognized in Tier 1 in Environmental Law by Chambers USA, as Best Lawyers’ “Lawyer of the Year” in Environmental Law in New Orleans in 2020 and 2025, as a SuperLawyer, and Top Lawyer, as well as received the Leadership in Law Award from New Orleans CityBusiness.
Greg’s contributions to A&WMA span decades and reflect exceptional dedication to the organization’s mission and growth on both the local and international levels. Beginning his involvement as a member of the Louisiana Section – encouraged by mentor Bill Palermo during his early engineering career – Greg has served in nearly every major leadership role in the Section. He served as its Education Chair, Treasurer, Chair-Elect, Chair, Past Chair, Speaker Chair, and Director. His sustained leadership and mentorship have contributed significantly to the vitality and continuity of the Section. At the international level, he served a term on the A&WMA Board of Directors and has served as the A&WMA Sections & Chapters Council Vice-Chair, Chair, Vitality Committee Chair, and informal insurance advisor to local member units. He was a frequent attendee and presenter at the various incarnations of the S&CC’s Incoming Officers’ Training and Leadership Training Academy (now known as Leadership Academy), which he considers to be his favorite A&WMA event. Greg was a member of the EP-3 (Legal/Liability) and EP-1 (Policy & Regulations) Technical Coordinating Committees. He served on the local host committees for the Annual Conferences and Exhibitions held in New Orleans in 2006 and 2016.
Mr. Johnson received a Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering from The University of Texas at Austin and a Juris Doctor, summa cum laude, from Loyola University New Orleans School of Law, where he served on the Loyola Law Review. During law school and prior to starting his law practice, Greg worked as a consulting environmental engineer at Waldemar S. Nelson & Company, concentrating on permitting, emissions estimation, reporting, modeling, and compliance issues in the oil and gas, chemical, and energy sectors.
Mr. Johnson resides in Metairie, Louisiana, and has been married to his wife, Christine, for 27 years. The Johnsons have triplets—Allyson, Christian, and Bailey—who have just completed their junior years (at three separate colleges).
