Position Open -- Social Media Editor
The Journal of the Air & Waste Management Association (JA&WMA) is establishing a Social Media Editor role ideally suited for a student or early-career researcher. The journal publishes policy-relevant work that deserves a wider readership than it currently reaches, and we would like someone nearer the start of their career to help us reach it.
The commitment is deliberately light: roughly two to four posts per month highlighting new articles, Editor picks, and journal news on LinkedIn and other social media channels. The Social Media Editor will work directly with Dr. Jeff Collett, JA&WMA’s Technical Editor-in-Chief, who will be glad to talk through the science behind any paper.
In return, the successful candidate will hold a named editorial role with an established journal, work alongside the editorial board and our publisher at Taylor & Francis, see what we publish before it appears, and build a genuine portfolio in science communication. In addition, a modest stipend and complementary A&WMA membership are included. The appointment runs one year and is renewable if mutually desired.
To apply, please send three things:
- A brief statement of interest. A cover letter or simply an email message is fine — a few paragraphs on why the role interests you and how you would approach it.
- Your current resume or CV.
- A few sample social media posts. These can be posts you have already published — links are fine —or, if you would rather, draft two or three posts about a recent JA&WMA paper of your choosing. We are interested in how you explain research to a broad audience.
To the attention of Lisa Bucher, Managing Editor, at lbucher@awma.org by October 30, 2026.
We expect to make a decision by December 1, 2026. The expected start date for this position is January 1, 2027.
